The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded a 7.3-magnitude earthquake offshore of Davao Occidental on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 18.
Phivolcs said the quake struck 352 kilometers (km) southeast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental at 2:06 p.m.
Its instruments measured the quake at Intensity II in Don Marcelino in Davao Occidental, Nabunturan in Davao de Oro, Glan and Kiamba in Sarangani, and General Santos City, Tupi, Santo Niño, Koronadal City, and T'Boli in South Cotabato.
It was also recorded at Intensity I in Kidapawan City in Cotabato, Maitum and Maasim in Sarangani, Tantangan, Lake Sebu, Tampakan, Suralla, and Norala in South Cotabato, and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur.
Phivolcs said the earthquake may have caused damage to houses, buildings, and other infrastructures.
It advised the public to stay vigilant as aftershocks may occur.
