Police to probe alleged abduction of two labor rights advocates in Central Visayas

CEBU CITY -- The Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) said it will look into the case of two labor rights advocates who were allegedly abducted here last Jan. 10.

Brig. Gen. Jerry Bearis, director of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7), said “a deep, thorough and impartial investigation” will determine what really happened to Armand Dayoha and Dyan Gumanao.

Dayoha is a volunteer organizer for Alyansa sa mga Mamumuo sa Sugbo-Kilusang Mayo Uno while Gumanao is coordinator for the Alliance of Concerned Teachers in Region 7.

The two were allegedly abducted shortly after they disembarked from a boat in Pier 6.

A video has been circulating online showing a group of persons trying to force someone to board a vehicle in a pier area.

The two came from Cagayan de Oro City and reportedly went missing shortly after the boat they boarded docked at Pier 6.

The relatives of the two activists took to social media in the hopes of locating Dayoha and Gumanao’s whereabouts.

The two were found safe last Wednesday, Jan. 17, in Carmen town, northern Cebu.

“Their presence will fast-track the investigation and their blow-by-blow account of what transpired will shed light in determining the perpetrators,” said Bearis.

“We request their cooperation in the investigation,” added Bearis.

Bearis assured the concerned parties of a transparent investigation.

“PRO 7 assures transparency in the investigation and we shall immediately update the parties once we secure developments on this case,” said Bearis.
