The Fil-Am beauty queen is a transformational leader both in the pageant world and the fashion industry
And just like that, we have a new queen. On Jan. 14, 2023, the entire globe tuned in to the Miss Universe pageant as it crowned its latest winner, Fil-Am beauty from USA R’Bonney Gabriel. Hailed from Texas, the 28-year-old wowed everyone with her stellar performance, undeniable wit, and great sense of style.
During the final question segment of the competition, R’Bonney shared how her experience in the fashion industry helped her to become a transformational leader—someone the prestigious beauty contest is looking for.
“In my industry, I’m cutting down on pollution through recycled materials when I make my clothing. I teach sewing classes to women that have survived human trafficking and domestic violence,” she said. “I say that because it is so important to invest in others, invest in our community, and use your unique talent to make a difference. We all have something special. And when we plant those seeds other people in our life, we transform them and we use that as a vehicle for change.”
In honor of her victory and passion for fashion, let’s look back at some of R’Bonney’s best style moments during her Miss Universe 2022 journey.
For her arrival look, she opted to wear an ensemble that played with negative space—a white corset and pants look with sharp shoulders by Houston-based Venezuelan designer Ruben Isaza.
Textured and made sustainably was her black fringed outfit during her shoot for Muba Cosmetics.
Looking romantic and sultry was R’Bonney in this red number.
Donning her favorite color, the Fil-Am beauty was stunning in this green body suit styled with an oversized crop jacket.
Inspired by pearls and her love for the ocean, R’Bonney’s sculptural white gown was another Ruben Isaza creation.
Neon is definitely one of R’Bonney’s power colors. Our favorite neon look was this coat paired with a fringed belt.
R’Bonney also designed some of her looks. An example of this is the timeless black and white look she wore during one of the pre-pageant activities.
During her close-door interview, she donned her handmade piece called 'A Beautiful Storm,' which embodied her life since becoming Miss USA.
This year’s pageant allowed the candidates to create a customized cape for the swimsuit competition. R’bonney designed hers with sustainable dyes and plastic bottles.
Filipino designer Rian Fernandez’s Viva Magenta preliminary evening gown for R’Bonney was all about universal harmony and being brave.
R’Bonney played with neutrals for her final rehearsal before the coronation night.
Lastly, R’Bonney’s winning look, crafted by Rian, perfectly complemented the new 'Force for Good' crown.
