Fashion designer Michael Leyva has uploaded online photos of the gowns he made for Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi.
According to him, these were supposed to be used as part of the Miss Universe evening gown competition.
Unfortunately, Celeste failed to enter the top 16 of the 71st edition, ending the Philippines' 12-year semis streak.
First-ever Filipino-American Miss USA, R'Bonney Gabriel was crowned as the new titleholder.
Many, including Michael, lauded Celeste.
Michael wrote on his Facebook: "You’re still our Miss Universe. Thank you for making us all proud @celeste_cortesi."
Celeste's co-Pinay beauty queens also expressed their support.
"We know you gave it your all, Celeste. We are very proud of you," Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach tweeted.
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray echoed the same thing, writing on Instagram: "Thank you for doing your best for the Philippines. You handled the pressure of carrying our flag so well! We're so proud. Mabuhay ka."
"You inspired us with your beauty, grace, and perseverance. Thank you for giving an amazing performance for the country, @celeste_cortesi!," Miss Universe Philippines organization wrote on their Facebook page.
During the preliminary competition, Celeste made headlines as she transformed into Darna during the national costume round.
The said piece was made by Los Angeles-based Filipino designer Oliver Tolentino, who also designed Celeste's sky blue evening gown.
