Nazareno devotees in Cardona, Rizal to hold evening procession

Devotees of the Black Nazarene, whose feast day is observed in Cardona, Rizal just like in Quiapo, Manila, will hold a night time procession on Jan. 9 as part of their devotion to the Christ in crimson robe.

The Jesus Nazareno Chapel in Looc, Cardona, Rizal will celebrate the feast day of the Poong Jesus Nazareno, locally known as "Amba" on Jan. 9.

At 8 a.m. on Jan. 9, Rev. Fr. Bienvenido Guevarra, parish priest of the Diocesan Shrine of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Cardona, Rizal officiated the mass to celebrate the feast day in the lakeshore community of Cardona.

At 6 p.m., a holy mass will also be offered and officiated by Rev. Fr. Vicentico Flores.

Following the evening mass, a grand procession will be held by parishioners and devotees of the Cardona’s Poong Jesus Nazareno in the town to culminate the feast day.

Novena masses, the praying of the Holy Rosary, and the Stations of the Cross were held nine days prior to the feast day.

Some devotees believe that Cardona’s image of the Black Nazarene performs the same miracles as the one in Quiapo Church in Manila.
