Calasiao, Pangasinan Mayor Mamilyn "Maya" Caramat passed away on Sunday, Jan. 8, due to hypertension.
Caramat, 52, was elected as the first woman mayor of Calasiao in the May 2022 elections.
She is survived by her husband, Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr., and two children.
"With great sadness and a heavy heart, we announce that our beloved mayor, Mayor Mamilyn 'Maya' B. Agustin-Caramat, has joined our Creator today, Jan. 8, 2023," her Facebook page said.
Details on her wake and interment will be announced later.
Meanwhile, the provincial government of Pangasinan headed by Gov. Ramon Guico III condoled with the family of Mayor Caramat.
Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez and the people of Dagupan also mourned her death.
She was described as a passionate, dedicated, hardworking, and loving public servant.
