Another new year

IT'S THE SMALL THINGS 2023. A new year, a new chance, a new opportunity. To many, the start of a new year is seemingly a blank canvass where we turn over a page and start anew. To others, it can sometimes be anti-climactic and seemingly (quite literally) just another ordinary day with 24 hours. Whatever you make, and your take is of the new year, it is undeniably the beginning of something – a new cycle of 365 days to work toward your dreams, goals, aspirations and growth. As we transition back to normalcy, there are days when I cannot help but reminisce the slow gentle moments of staying at home in 2020. Never did I think I would ever long for those days. But as the world bounces back, so do we. We have learned that resilience and flexibility are key not only to survive in an ever-changing world, but more so, to thrive. After all, it is what can set us apart, sustain our sanity, and help us grow regardless of what shifts and detours the world may take us through. Regardless of whatever personal decisions we choose to make this year, we must do so in the direction of progress. We must make a conscious effort to evolve simultaneous with the world, and the community around us. Let us always remember that growth does not take place in the realms of our comfort zone, and in whatever way, shape or form we are looking to attain this, requires us to take risks of sorts. At the end of the day, when we look back, despite the fact most of us stayed home in 2020 and plans most definitely changed, a whole lot of personal growth and change took place for a lot of us. Indeed, regardless of decisions people and leaders make, or how we choose to live our lives, the clock will always tick. Time is a constant, and it will not stop. How we feel it is merely an illusion, and what we make of it is the control we have over it. My 2022 ended in a most positive note, and I have a good feeling about this year to come. It is almost as if the world pre-Covid is back in our midst, and it is somewhat surreal because I will never forget the days when we did not see this in sight. Things always happen for a reason; of that I am most certain. And although I will never be able to fully explain the year that was 2020, I will always be able to look back fondly at the decisions I made on a personal note to go with the times, and to tide over. It most definitely changed me for the better, and I saw a lot of my greatest personal growth in the years that followed. So while it will always be a year of despair for the world, and a year we will never forget in this lifetime, I choose to look back with gratitude at what it taught me. And next week, I will revel more on these thoughts. For now, let us keep our thoughts for the new year on a positive front. Indeed, it is about the small things. Let us never take them for granted. Ever. Again.
