Ronnie Magsanoc will be taking over the post as the new UAAP men's basketball commissioner following Dickie Bachmann’s recent appointment as the Philippine Sports Commission chairman.

The 56-year-old former UAAP champion will oversee the men's basketball tournament which concluded last December with Ateneo winning its 12th title.

Bachmann, who replaced Noli Eala, took his oath last Jan. 4, in Malacañang.

Magsanoc’s rich history in the UAAP, on the other hand, dates back to his collegiate years with University of the Philippines as he was part of the crew that won the second championship title for the Fighting Maroons in 1986.

In 2002, Magsanoc began his coaching stint in the PBA after retiring from playing.

A decade later, he will be seen in the collegiate rank again where he won in his rookie year with the San Beda Red Lions in the NCAA.

Before his appointment, he was heavily involved in UP’s historic championship run in Season 84 as part of the coaching staff.
