General linked to Davao City model's death asked to cooperate with PNP probe

The military is in constant coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) in connection with the death of a businesswoman and model in Davao City last month.

This, after an Army general was implicated in the killing of Yvonette Chua who was shot dead in front of her house in Davao City on Dec. 30.

The Army official, Brig. Gen. Jesus Durante III, however, denied the allegation which cropped up over a social media post of a relative of the victim.

Durante used to be the commander of the President Security Group (PSG) under president Rodrigo Duterte. He now heads the 1001st Brigade.

Philippine Army chief Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. said the 10th Infantry Division where Durante is assigned is already looking into the matter.

"We have advised General Durante to cooperate with any investigation on the allegations against him," said Brawner.

For his part, 10th ID spokesman Capt. Mark Anthony Tito said they are coordinating with the Police Regional Office 11 in connection with the investigation on the death of Chua.

Tito said the leadership of the 10th ID could no initiate investigation since the allegation was raised on the social media.

"So far, there is no formal request or complaint against one of our senior officers. Thus, we could not take action based on social media," said Tito.

"We will wait for the result of investigation of the PNP and the unit will cooperate with the ongoing formal investigation, if needed. We will not condone any wrongdoing of our personnel including senior officers," he added.
