The New Year celebration in the City of Manila was “generally peaceful” as the whole city recorded zero major incidents, Manila Police District (MPD) Director Pol. Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

“The Manila City celebration of December 31, New Year’s Eve revelry, was resoundingly safe and peaceful,” he said.
Dizon, in a statement, said there was no reported major firecracker-related incident, including any injury from stray bullets, indiscriminate firing, or firecracker-related conflagration.
The MPD had only apprehended one violator of illegal discharge of firearms, and confiscated firecrackers worth P136,630.00 in the entire city.
The MPD chief added that the intensified implementation of “Ligtas Paskuhan 2022" through the S.A.F.E. National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) Program helped in minimizing the crime and incidents during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
“These positive developments could be attributed to our early preparations and consistent implementation of various measures,” said Dizon.
He also noted that the ban on the use and sale of firecrackers and pyrotechnics also contributed to maintaining peace and safety in the city during the said events.
Dizon also said no MPD personnel was found to have fired their service firearms during the New Year revelry.
