Inclement weather hampers search operation for missing boy in Southern Cebu
CEBU CITY -- The inclement weather that Metro Cebu has been experiencing is affecting the efforts to find the five-year-old boy who went missing after a motorized boat he was riding on capsized off Barangay Sangat, San Fernando town, southern Cebu on Sunday night, Jan. 1.
The Philippine Coast Guard-Central Visayas (PCG-7) said the search and retrieval operations were terminated before midnight on Monday, Jan. 3, because of rough sea conditions.
Stephen Pagcaliwagan, information officer of Philippine Coast Guard-Central Visayas (PCG-7), said the Coast Guard Sub-Station in the City of Naga has already coordinated with fisherfolk in adjacent coastal barangays of Sangat where the incident happened.
Fisherfolk was advised to report to concerned authorities any sighting of the missing boy, Pagcaliwagan said.
The boy was among the 24 passengers aboard the pump boat that sank while on its way to Calape town, Bohol.
The passengers are all from Barangay Manipis, Talisay City, Cebu who were supposed to attend the birthday party of their relative in Bohol.
The passengers were about to transfer to another boat when the boat that brought them from San Fernando sank due to strong waves.
