New survey shows 54% of Koreans want BTS to fulfill their military service
A new survey showed that 54 percent of Koreans want K-pop boy band BTS to fulfill their military service.
Korean media outlet Straight News commissioned a survey about BTS’ military service, which has become a national issue in South Korea.

The debate is whether BTS should be exempted from military service as they have contributed greatly to expanding Hallyu, or Korean Wave, around the world and to improving the image of South Korea.
Jin, the oldest member of BTS, will be the first in line to enlist in the military if no new law is passed.
The survey was done by Jowon C&I on Sept. 4 among 1,001 Koreans aged 18 and above.
The respondents were asked to choose between two statements: BTS should fulfill their military service or BTS should be given special military service benefits for the national interest.
In the survey, 54.1 percent of the respondents said BTS should fulfill their military service and 40.1 percent said they should be given special military service benefits. The remaining 5.8 percent answered they did not know.
All age groups said BTS must fulfill their military service. 72.1 percent among those 18 to 29 years old (23.9 percent said they should have special benefits); 60.4 percent of those in their 30s (35 percent for special benefits); 49.4 percent of those in their 40s (45.4 percent for special benefits); 48.3 percent of those in their 50s (47.1 percent for special benefits); and 47.5 percent of those at least 60 years old (43.8 percent for special benefits).
By gender, among males, 58.1 percent said BTS must do their military service while 38.2 percent said they should be given special benefits.
Among women, 50.3 percent said they must enlist in the military while 41.8 percent said they should have special benefits.
