ZAMBOANGA CITY – The City Health Office here reported that nine students were infected with COVID-19, barely 16 days since face-to-face classes started in most schools.

City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite said the students came from the elementary, high school and tertiary levels.
They were either asymptomatic or exhibited symptoms but all have already recovered from the virus.
Miravite said they isolated the students and conducted contact tracing as a precautionary measure against the spread of the virus in schools.
The CHO is closely coordinating with the Department of Education office here for any other students who might be infected with the virus.

The DepEd regional office has strictly directed school officials and teachers to follow minimum public health protocols to avoid the spread of infection among students.
On Aug. 22, schools were allowed to conduct face-to-face classes for the first time since most of social gatherings, outside activities, businesses and works were suspended with the declaration of pandemic in March 2020.
