CEBU CITY -- Five persons were arrested while a minor was rescued in separate anti-illegal gambling operations in Dumanjug town, southern Cebu on Sunday, Sept. 4.
The series of operations targeting individuals involved in illegal numbers game called ‘swertres’ were conducted by operatives of the Intelligence Division of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas headed by Lt. Col. Ronnie Failoga.
First to fall were Rosalie Villalon, 31, and Gwendolyn Ricardel 36, who were arrested in Barangay Tabon, Dumanjug.
A second operation in the same barangay also led to the arrest of Louige Bendanillo Pasatiempo 28, and Josephine Colinares 43.
Police also arrested Arnel Lai Cabonilas, 42, in another operation in Tapon.
During the series of operations, police rescued a 15-year-old girl who was chanced upon by police manning a makeshift booth that was used to sell number combinations.
Police said the arrested persons were hired by two persons who were allegedly behind the ‘swertres’ operation in the town.
The names of the two individuals who are allegedly behind the numbers game were withheld pending their comment on the allegations against them.
The arrested persons will be charged for violation of Presidential Decree 1602, police said.
