NDRRMC: Typhoon Henry had 'very minimal' impact; one new death being validated
Typhoon Henry exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) before dawn Sunday, Sept. 4, leaving behind “very minimal” impact in Northern Luzon, according to the initial assessment of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

However, authorities were validating a new reported fatality in Ilocos Norte in Region 1 due to drowning.
“We are validating a reported fatality in Region 1, Ilocos Norte due to drowning. There is no confirmation yet if it really was related to Henry or the southwest monsoon,” said NDRRMC spokesperson Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV in a radio interview over dzBB.
“It has very minimal effect compared to Typhoon Florita because basically, it never made a landfall,” he added.
In its latest situational report on Sunday, the NDRRMC said a total of 110 families composed of 321 individuals were affected by the typhoon in four barangays in Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur before it left PAR at 1:40 a.m.
The NDRRMC said that 179 persons were evacuated in Ilocos Sur, including 149 individuals who were temporarily staying in an evacuation center in Burgos town.
Some 180 individuals were also pre-emptively evacuated in Ilocos Region and Cagayan Valley (Region 2) due to the threat of flooding, landslide, mudslide, and soil erosion.
“After Henry left early morning, we will immediately start our rapid damage assessment as part of our SOP . We will check its impact because now is the time for our personnel to safely go out and assess the situation to make sure that we can see everything including if Henry caused a major damage,” Alejandro said.
“The typhoon was really far from the mainland so it never really made landfall. It brought wind and rain which triggered monsoon rains but even these had very minimal effect. It’s a good thing we were prepared and we advised the public beforehand,” he added.
