BACOLOD CITY – A man with pending cases was gunned down while a public school teacher was wounded by a stray bullet in Purok Masagana, Barangay Poblacion 2, Sagay City, Negros Occidental on Thursday, Sept. 29.
Police identified the fatality as Jomarie Matarong, 38, of Barangay Maquiling.

Lt. Col. Roberto Indiape Jr., Sagay City police chief, said that Matarong was on his way home on board his motorcycle when an unidentified person on another motorcycle overtook and shot him.
Matarong lost control of his motorcycle and fell into the ground and was shot again by another unidentified person on a motorcycle who was waiting in the area.
The gunmen fled to an unknown direction.
Matarong sustained five bullet wounds in the body and was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.
The wounded, public school teacher Marilyn Mangulabnan, 56, of Barangay Poblacion 1, was just passing by the area on her way home when she was hit by a stray bullet in the left leg and is now in stable condition in a hospital, Indiape said.
Police recovered from the crime scene three deformed bullets and six cartridge cases for a .45 caliber pistol.
Lawmen are looking into grudges as possible motive in the incident, since Matarong had pending cases.
He had a previous murder case which was dismissed after the complainant failed to attend the hearings when they transferred to another place, Indiape said.
