LTFRB opens 43 addt'l pre-pandemic routes; 3513 PUV units allowed to travel


In response to the need for public transportation amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Friday, Sept. 30, opened 43 pre-pandemic routes for Public Utility Bus (PUB), Public Utility Jeepney (PUJ), and Utility Vehicle Express (UVE) units.

The LTFRB said that it decided to open more routes to boost the livelihood of Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) drivers. With this, the LTFRB said a total of 3,513 PUV units will be allowed to ply their routes.

The opened routes for traditional PUJ, modern PUJ, and UVE are under the Metro Manila Urban Transport Integration Study Update and Capacity Program (MUCEP) Area, according to the recently released Memorandum Circular No. 2022-073.

Of the 43 routes that the LTFRB opened, the agency noted that 20 of these are PUB routes. These routes will result to the employment of an additional 1,675 PUB units.

According to the MC 2022-073, here are the pre-pandemic routes that the agency opened:

Meanwhile, the LTFRB reminded PUV drivers to follow the rules and policies outlined in their Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC).

“Ang sinumang mahuling lumalabag sa mga ito ay papatawan ng karampatang parusa base sa Joint Administrative Order 2014-01 (Anyone caught violating these will be subject to appropriate punishment based on Joint Administrative Order 2014-01),” the agency said.
