'Karding' death toll climbs to 12; agri damage estimated at P3 billion – NDRRMC

The number of people who died due to Super Typhoon “Karding” rose to 12 while close to one million Filipinos have already been affected as of Friday, Sept. 30, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) disclosed.

Based on the latest report of NDRRMC, one new fatality was recorded in Tanay, Rizal due to drowning.

Meanwhile, six of the fatalities were recorded in Bulacan: five volunteer-rescuers who drowned in San Miguel town and another one in Baliuag town who also drowned. Two individuals also died in Zambales due to drowning and motorcycle accident; and one each in Burdeos, Quezon; Antipolo, and Tanay in Rizal province due to landslide and drowning.

The NDRRMC also said that there were 52 persons who were injured in the aftermath of Karding in Central Luzon (Region 3) and Calabarzon (Region 4A). The number of missing persons remained at six, composed mostly of fishermen.

The number of Filipinos affected by the super typhoon already reached 245,063 families or 911,404 individuals.

They were from 1,759 barangays in Ilocos Region (1), Cagayan Valley (Region 2), Region 3, Region 4A, Mimaropa (Region 4B), Bicol Region (5), and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Of this, a total of 921 families or 3,955 individuals remained in 27 evacuation centers across the affected regions.

The damage to agriculture was pegged at P3.05 billion in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4A, 5 and Cordillera. On the other hand, infrastructure loss was estimated at P23.75 million in Regions 1, 4B, 5, and Cordillera.

Out of the 116 cities and municipalities that experienced power interruption during the typhoon’s onslaught last week, a total of 74 areas were able to restore their electricity, according to NDRRMC.

This means that until now, at least 42 areas were still without electricity. These are located in Pangasinan, a big portion of Aurora province, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, a big portion of Tarlac, Quezon province, and Rizal.
