DepEd confirms reports of learners, personnel who tested positive for Covid-19
The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday, Sept. 30 confirmed reports of learners, teaching, and non-teaching staff who have tested positive since the resumption of face-to-face classes this school year.

“Talaga pong meron na tayong natatanggap na reports of Covid cases or cases kung saan nagpa-positive ang learners, teachers and non-teaching staff (We have actually received reports of Covid cases or cases where learners, teachers and non-teaching staff have tested positive),” Education Spokesman Michael Poa said during this week’s DepEd-OVP joint press conference.
“However, as to the exact figure, we cannot give you an accurate figure just yet we need to verify the info with the tracking that is being done by LGUs and perhaps, the data also with DOH ,” Poa added.
DepEd, he said, has been receiving reports from all over the country that there are students, teachers, and non-teaching staff who have contracted Covid-19.
“That is why we are closely monitoring the situation and making sure that our schools have the infection containment plan na ipinagawa natin sa kanila (which we asked them to do] before school opening para ang maiwasan natin is yung surge,” Poa explained.

After two years of distance learning due to the pandemic, Philippine schools opened the school year (SY) 2022-2023 with the resumption of face-to-face classes.
“In a gathering of people like in classrooms, we expected that there will be those who will test positive ,” Poa said, noting that this is not different in other settings such as establishments and offices.
Since classes for public schools opened in August, DepEd has allowed schools not to implement five days of face-to-face classes just yet. Schools, both public and private, were allowed to implement blended or distance learning modalities until Oct. 31, 2022.
