The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) clarified on Saturday, Sept. 3, that the lone reported fatality in Ifugao amid the bad weather was not due to Typhoon Henry (international name: Hinnamnor) nor Typhoon Gardo, contrary to what it earlier reported.

Instead, NDRRMC spokesperson Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said the farmer who was initially tagged as a typhoon casualty turned out to be a victim of landslide caused by localized thunderstorm enhanced by southwest monsoon or habagat.
This was reflected in the latest situational report of the NDRRMC released on Saturday morning where it indicated that there was no casualty related to Typhoon Henry.
Prior to this, the NDRRMC and the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Renie Bullan, a 37-year-old farmer in Mayoyao, Ifugao, died due to a landslide caused by the combined effects of typhoons Henry and Gardo.
Meanwhile, the latest weather report from NDRRMC also indicated that there were only five persons evacuated in Cagayan Valley (Region 2) while only one soil erosion was monitored in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
There were 13 roads that were initially rendered impassable to the public due to flooding, landslides, and rockslides but after clearing operations, only five of them remained closed to motorists located in Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Benguet.
The closed roads were the Bontoc-Mainit provincial road, Corocoro section of Poblacion national road, and Masla Duangan provincial road all in Mountain Province; the Bayucan section of the Caba provincial road in Lagawe, Ifugao; and the Lamut-Ambiong municipal road in La Trinidad, Benguet.
On the other hand, the power interruption experienced by residents in six areas in La Union had already been fully restored.
Alejandro said the NDRRMC expects that there would be no significant damage in agriculture and infrastructure in the affected regions in Northern Luzon since Henry was located far away from the mainland Luzon.
“We will conduct a post-assessment and rapid damage assessment once it exits the . But we are monitoring the effects of habagat especially in Regions 1, 2, and 3,” said Alejandro, who also serves as the deputy administrator for operations of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).
The NDRRMC has prepositioned 500,000 units of family food packs and P600 million in standby funds for those who will be affected by the typhoon.
