Only 157,338 tourists visited the country’s most famous beach destination in Malay, Aklan last month.

The Malay Tourism Office said there was a decrease of 25,758 tourists for August compared to the 183,096 who visited in July.

Bulk of the tourists was still domestic, which accounted for 132,820 arrivals. But this also dropped, compared to July with 160,259.

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) visiting Boracay also decreased with only 4,909 arrivals, from 6,107 two months ago.

On the other hand, more foreign tourists arrived in August, with 19,609 visitors, an increase of almost 3,000 visitors from July which had 16,730.

This was attributed to the return of direct international flights at the Kalibo Airport, the gateway of Boracay.
