The Commission on Elections (Comelec) released on Wednesday, Dec. 7 the four aspirants who will vie for the vacated House of Representatives (HOR) seat in the 7th Legislative District of the province of Cavite.

Pursuant to Comelec Resolution No. 10848, the poll body will be conducting a special election after the HOR passed a resolution declaring a vacancy in the 7th District of Cavite after Jesus Crispin Remulla assumed as Secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Among the aspirants are Remulla's son, Crispin Diego Diaz Remulla who will be running under the National Unity Party. Three others are Jose Angelito Domingo Aguinaldo, Melencio Loyola De Sagun, Jr., and Michael Angelo Bautista Santos who are all independent. According to Comelec, all registered voters from the Municipalities of Amadeo, Indang, and Tanza, and the City of Trece Martires, will be participating in this electoral exercise.
Similar to the May 2022 polls, the voting, counting, and canvassing of votes will be via the Automated Elections System, using the Vote-Counting Machine (VCM) and the Consolidation and Canvassing System (CCS).
"Pursuant to Section 8 of R.A. No. 8189, no registration shall, however, be conducted during the period starting 120 days before a regular election and 90 days before a special election," the poll body stated.
"Accordingly, Voters Registration is hereby SUSPENDED in the 7th District of Cavite from November 25, 2022 until February 24, 2023," it added.
