Man driving motorcycle dies in collision with police car in Negros Occidental
BACOLOD CITY – A man driving a motorcycle died after he was struck by a police patrol car in Barangay Punao, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

The victim was identified as Roy Valiente of Escalante City.
Lt. Col. Jesus Mesahon Jr., San Carlos City police chief, said the patrol car was on its way back to the police station after patrolling the area when the driver, a casual employee hired by the city government, allegedly overtook a tricycle.
However, the driver failed to notice that Valiente’s motorcycle was approaching on the opposite lane.
The driver tried to avoid the motorcycle but due to the slippery road caused by heavy rains, he failed to maneuver and hit the victim, Mesahon said.
The patrol car swerved and fell into a canal after the collision, Mesahon added.
Mesahon said the two policemen on board the patrol car and the driver were unharmed while Valiente was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.
He said the driver is detained at the police station, pending the filing of charges or a possible settlement with the victim’s family.
