'Evacuation center master plan': Sandro preps district for next strong typhoon

Senior Deputy Majority Leader Sandro Marcos doesn't want to take any chances with his beloved kakailian (northern brethren) as far as potentially destructive typhoons are concerned.

That's why the Ilocos Norte 1st district congressman tapped the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to help him come up with a topographical assessment of his area.

"In light of Typhoon Karding, we are creating a master plan for evacuation centers in the 1st district of Ilocos Norte. They will be powered with solar charging and sufficient provisions to help our displaced kakailian after being affected by natural disasters," Marcos wrote in a Facebook post Wednesday, Sept. 28.

"Thank you to the DENR in helping us identify the areas most prone from landslides and flooding," added the presidential son.

Earlier this week, typhoon "Karding" barreled through Luzon but most of the region was thankfully spared from flooding. This has been attributed to its being weakened by the Sierra Madre mountain range, which for centuries have protected Luzon from such weather events.

Marcos, 28, is a neophyte member of the House of Representatives. The House adjourned following Wednesday's session and will not convene again until Nov. 7, 2022.
