61 PDLs, 69 employees of Baguio City Jail negative for illegal drugs

BAGUIO CITY -- Sixty-one Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) and 69 employees of the Baguio City Jail Male Dorm were found negative for illegal drugs during a surprise random test conducted in conjunction with the greyhound operation inside the detention cells on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

According to Jail Supt. Mary Ann Ollaging-Tresmanio, the result was released on Wednesday, Sept. 28. The drug test was conducted by the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center Drug treatment unit.

Tresmanio said the activity is part of a series of inspections done in the process of renewing the ‘drug-free facility’ certification of the Baguio City Jail Male Dorm.

It marked the second time that joint personnel from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the Special Operations Unit of the Drug Enforcement Group (SOG-DEG)-Cordillera of the Philippine National Police, and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) conducted the surprise drug test.

Greyhound operation was done to thoroughly check the crevices of the detention cells including the personal belongings of the PDLs.

No illegal drugs or any drugs paraphernalia were found during the greyhound operation inside the detention cells.

She said the greyhound operation was the second of three requirements that must be met before they could be issued a certificate.

"The BJMP is trying to make its facilities drug-free as a contribution to the government's initiative to make state-run facilities drug-free," Tresmanio said.

Currently there are 434 or 63 percent of the PDL population facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Law of 2002.
