Most of the sea ports in Luzon that were affected by Super Typhoon “Karding” have already returned to normal operations, the Philippine Coast Guard said Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Commodore Armando Balilo, PCG spokesperson, said only the Port of Matnog in Sorsogon has yet to go back to normal since there were still a few stranded passengers waiting for the resumption of their trips.
“Normal na po ang mga pantalan natin. Lahat ng ports sa Bicol, Southern Tagalog kasama ang Batangas at Mindoro, at Metro Manila ay normal na po ang operations (Our ports have already returned to normal. All ports in Bicol, Southern Tagalog including Batangas and Mindoro, and Metro Manila have returned to normal operations),” Balilo said in a news briefing.
“Ito ang mga ports na apektado nitong nakaraang bagyo na nagkaroon tayo ng stranded passengers. Maliban sa Matnog na may konting nakapila pa, lahat ay normal na ang operation (These are the ports that were affected by the previous typhoon where some of the passengers got stranded. Except for Matnog which has a few passengers still queuing, all others have normal operations),” he added.
The number of stranded passengers peaked from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, where a total of 2,833 individuals, 41 rolling cargoes, 16 vessels, and 17 motorbancas were barred from leaving the affected ports in Bicol, Southern Tagalog and National Capital Region.
Further, Balilo said that no vessel has been destroyed and no maritime incident was monitored during the onslaught of Karding. He attributed this to the early preparation of the PCG and the prompt issuance of advisories to shipping companies and fishing communities about a no-sail policy.
“Nagpapatupad tayo ng isang proactive na pag-a-advise para hindi tayo magkaroon ng maritime incident (We are implementing a proactive issuance of advisories to prevent a maritime incident),” he noted.
Safety protocols were also observed in ports at the height of typhoon to prevent stranded passengers from spreading Covid-19, he said.
Karding left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday night.
