Ex-chief justice Bersamin is Marcos' new executive secretary

MalacaÃ±ang confirmed that Bersamin took his oath of office before President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Tuesday morning, Sept. 27.

He replaces Vic Rodriguez who resigned from the post over a week ago.

"He began his duties immediately by attending the 9th cabinet meeting right after (his) swearing in (ceremony)," Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said.

This also came as a confirmation of the circulating claims since Marcos' birthday that Rodriguez, his spokesperson during the campaign period, will be replaced by Bersamin.

The Palace was tight-lipped about this until Rodriguez broke his silence and announced his resignation. He, however, took a new role as the Presidential Chief of Staff.

Last week, the Palace said Marcos has been considering nominees for the position without revealing the names of the candidates.

Bersamin, 72, served as chief justice from 2018 to 2019 during the term of former president Rodrigo Duterte.

He was serving as Court of Appeals Associate Justice since March 2003 when he was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2009 by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
