The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) continued Tuesday, Sept. 27, its humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR) operations in areas affected by Super Typhoon "Karding."

Col. Jorry Baclor, chief of AFP public information office, said elements of the Philippine Army's 1st Infantry Battalion together with personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard and other disaster volunteers delivered more than 1,000 boxes of relief goods from the Department of Social Welfare, 900 bottles of drinking water, and 100 boxes of sardines at the Polillo Port in Polillo, Quezon for distribution to affected residents.

Relief operations were also conducted by troops from the 202nd Infantry Brigade to affected families in an evacuation center in Real, Quezon.

Philippine Air Force (PAF) personnel of Tactical Operations Wing Southern Luzon also helped in repacking 16,000 food packs at the operations center of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) in Quezon on Monday night, Sept. 26.

Troops of the 91st Infantry Battalion in San Luis, Aurora, the 70th Infantry Battalion in Bulacan, and the 31st Mechanized Company in Tarlac also helped clear debris along the roads in their respective areas of operation.

"The AFP continues to coordinate with the Office of Civil Defense and other national and local government agencies to ensure the prompt and efficient deployment of military assets in the government's humanitarian and disaster response efforts," Baclor said.

More typhoon-hit areas in Luzon are expected to be reached by relief operations as the weather started to improve. Karding exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 8 p.m. Monday.
