Police nab drug lord in Sulu

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police arrested a suspected drug lord in Kalingalang Caluang, Sulu on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Col. John Francis Encinareal, Criminal Investigation Detection Group Region 9 chief, identified the suspect as Sirana Ummal Ahajan, alias “Ellay Jaliluddin,” a high-value target, and Abu Sayyaf Group supporter.

Encinareal said authorities initially intended to serve a search warrant to another drug suspect, Basal Jaliluddin, alias “Salip Basal,” but he managed to escape.

While in the vicinity, lawmen spotted Ahajan and arrested him after finding illegal drugs in his possession.

Police recovered P340,000 worth of illegal drugs, two fragmentation grenades, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia from the suspect.

Encinareal described Ahajan as an Abu Sayyaf supporter and a known drug lord in the area capable of purchasing up to three kilos of illegal drugs and distributing it to small drug dealers.

The suspect was detained at the Indanan Municipal Police Station.
