ARITAO, Nueva Vizcaya – Illegally cut narra bar flitches valued at P1.2 million was intercepted in a Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) checkpoint on the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Calitlitan here on Monday, Sept. 26.
The Nueva Vizcaya Police Provincial Office said two men transporting them in a truck were arrested – Rommel Mercado, truck driver, of Calumpang, San Miguel, Bulacan, and “Warwin,” 19, helper, of Masalipit, San Miguel.
A DENR checkpoint flagged down the truck and discovered 104 narra flitches measuring a total of 2,520.75 board feet with an estimated market value of P 1,260,375 in an inspection.
DENR staff called the local police for assistance and confiscated the contraband after the truck crew failed to present pertinent documents.
The vehicle and narra were taken to the DENR office here while the duo was taken to the police station here for filing of appropriate charges in court.
