Driver in South Cotabato truck plow faces multiple charges

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Police are set to file criminal charges against the erring driver of a wayward truck responsible for the multiple vehicular accident in Tupi, South Cotabato on Friday, Sept. 23, that killed a father and his four-year-old son and injured 17 other individuals.

Police identified the fatalities as Diamaloden Makasaehe, 28, and son Jannaiden, who both died on the spot.

Brig. Gen Jimili Macaraeg, Police Regional Office-12 director, said charges for double homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to properties will be filed against Albert Zambrano, 26.

Macaraeg has condoled with the victims’ families and reminded motorists and drivers to regularly check the safety and reliability of their vehicles before driving them.

Robert Kiunisala, assistant regional director of the Land transportation Office-12, said the LTO is set to investigate the incident to determine the liability of Zambrano.

He said if Zambrano is found negligent in the multiple vehicular accident, the LTO will recommend the revocation of his driver’s license.

The ten-wheel truck plowed into several vehicles after its brake malfunctioned while traversing the national highway in Barangay Poblacion.

The truck hit 14 vehicles, including five motorcycles, three sports utility vehicles, a pick-up truck, a passenger bus, and Makasaehe’s motorcycle.
