3 Marines hurt in Lanao del Sur ambush

COTABATO CITY (PNA) – Three Marines were wounded in an ambush in the coastal town of Picong, Lanao del Sur on Sunday, Sept. 25.

Lt. Col. Serge Ronquillo, commander of the 2nd Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT-2), identified the wounded soldiers as Privates First Class Stephen Saragal and Elijah Taccas and Private Romy Torallo Jr., all of MBLT-2.

Ronquillo said they were patrolling its area of operation on board a military vehicle when they were ambushed at about 6 p.m.

“A pursuit operation is going on,” Ronquillo said in a radio interview.

All three sustained limb injuries, he said, adding they are trying to determine the armed group behind the attack.

A security alert has been raised and additional Marine checkpoints have been set up on strategic sections of Picong following the attack.
