OWWA assists 353 repatriated OFWs from Saudi Arabia

A total of 353 repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Saudi Arabia were assisted by the Overseas Worker Welfare Administration (OWWA) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Friday afternoon, Sept. 23.

The OFWs arrived at NAIA onboard Philippine Airlines Flight PR8629 from Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

According to OWWA, most of the repatriated OFWs were run-away workers, distressed workers, and some with illnesses that need medical attention, among others.

OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio directed the repatriation team to assess the documents of the OFWs and make possible assistance if needed.

Travelers with health clearance will immediately be sent home, according to the OWWA.

Meanwhile, OFWs who need to undergo health protocols will be sent to a quarantine facility or a hotel partnered with the OWWA.

The OWWA is also extending special aid to OFWs who need transportation assistance.

Ignacio reminded the OFWs to avail the government’s flagship program for returning Filipino migrant workers, especially the livelihood assistance program under the Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay (BPBH) platform.

“They can also avail of the programs under the National Reintegration Center for OFWs for business assistance and another platform under the OWWA’s reintegration programs,” Ignacio further stated.

The continuous repatriation of OFWs from KSA is a product of the successful bilateral talks undertaken by DMW Secretary Susan Ople with the labor officials of Saudi Arabia.
