Over 260 families receive livelihood assistance in Malabon

Over 260 families received financial aid under the Livelihood Assistance Grant (LAG) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at the Atis Covered Court, Barangay Potrero in Malabon City on Thursday, Sept. 22.

The distribution of the livelihood assistance is supported by the office of Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Tesoro Go and the DSWD – National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR).

The city government said the beneficiaries, who are low-income families severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, were each given P15,000.

The beneficiaries' enlistment went through the process under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) and DSWD Memorandum Circular No. 1, Series of 2020 or the Special Guidelines on the Provision of LAG.

"I am grateful to Senator Bong Go and DSWD-NCR for allocating this funding to help cover the household expenses of the families in Malabon who are still struggling to recover from the negative impact brought by the pandemic," Malabon City Mayor Jeannie N. Sandoval said.

In line with the program, Senator Go also engaged the families in raffle games and giveaway prizes.

One of the beneficiaries, Ma. Eliza Vinuya, 47, resident of Brgy. Tonsuya, said they will use the cash grant to recover from the crisis caused by the pandemic. Her husband provides for their family by selling “balut” (fertilized duck egg).

“Tuwang-tuwa po ako sa malaking tulong lalo’t sa hirap na inabot namin ng mag-anak ko (I am very happy with this big help, especially that my family and I went through hard challenges)” Vinuya said.

Other recipients from 21 different barangays of Malabon also expressed their gratitude, according to the city government.

Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, former Congressman Ricky Sandoval, Jury Marasigan, Malabon Police Chief Albert Barot, City Councilors Edward Nolasco, Maricar Torres, Nadja Vicencio, and Gerry Bernardo, who is also the City Council's Cooperative's Labor, Trade and Industry Committee chairman, were also present during the event.

LAG is among the efforts of DSWD and SAP to support the establishment and rehabilitation of the livelihood of families affected by the imposition of community quarantine due to the pandemic.

SAP is a social protection program introduced by the national government to address the Covid-19-affected communities in the country by providing subsidies.
