UST becomes 1st PH higher education institution tapped for 'PinasLakas' campaign
The University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila on Thursday, Sept. 22, opened a one-day Covid-19 vaccination booster site as part of the government’s “Pinaslakas” campaign.

UST served as a Covid-19 vaccine site for Thomasians including students, teaching, and non-teaching personnel who wish to get their booster shots against the disease.
The event brought together officials from UST and its partners, the Department of Health - National Capital Region (DOH-NCR), the Manila Health Department, and the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.
It was also attended by officials from various government agencies including the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)-NCR, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

In his welcome remarks, UST Rector Fr. Richard Ang, O.P. underscored the importance of getting boosted and encouraged everyone to get their shots as soon as they are eligible.
“Kung may booster tayo, makakasigurado tayo na ay handa, ligtas, at magiging malusog... Mapo-protektahan natin hindi lamang ang ating sarili kundi at ang ating pamilya at ang ating mahal sa buhay (If we have a booster, we can be sure that we are ready, safe, and healthy... We can protect not only ourselves but also our family and our loved ones),” Ang said.
UST said it was tapped as the first HEI to launch the campaign with the “hope of ensuring the wall of immunity within the university that is vital for the continuity of academic functions and students’ learning as well as increasing the confidence in the gradual opening or resumption of face-to-face classes.”

During the opening program, Metro Manila Center for Health Development Director Ali Sudiacal explained that “out of all the sites for the 'PinasLakas' program, UST holds the largest number of single day registrations.”
Sudiacal also noted that the “PinasLakas” is not just a government effort but a whole-of-society approach amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the program, CHED-NCR Education Supervisor Annalyn Diaz expressed support for the “PinasLakas” campaign and assured that the commission will continue to strengthen its Covid-19 vaccination campaign at the tertiary level.
After the opening program, Thomasians lined up to get Covid-19 vaccine booster shots at the UST Practice Gym.

UST is offering booster shots to Thomasians in support of the national government’s “PinasLakas” campaign. First and second booster doses were made available to UST students as well as to its staff and their dependents.
Led by DOH, “PinasLakas” is the nationwide booster vaccination campaign of the government which aims to increase the number of individuals who have availed of booster shots against Covid-19.
