UP Diliman launches Martial Law Memorial TikTok challenge

A Martial Law Memorial TikTok Challenge was launched by the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) College of Mass Communication (CMC) in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of Martial Law on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

The online contest, UPD CMC said, aims to maximize the use of the social media platform on counteracting the spread of online misinformation about Martial Law.

The TikTok challenge is open to all UP System-enrolled undergraduates as well as those enrolled in Grades 11 and 12 at the UP Integrated School.

UPD CMC Dean Ernan Paragas said during the TikTok challenge launching on Sept. 14 that UP scholars play a big role in the public dissemination of factual information regarding this important event in the country’s history using new interventions.

And at this point in time, most people are already on TikTok thus the creation of this TikTok challenge, Paragas said.

Interested participants may submit their entry either in the form of a song, dance, skit, or narrative with a minimum of 30 seconds and a maximum of two minutes.

Submission of entries is until Sept. 30 and winners will be announced on Oct. 17.

The content may be serious or funny as long as it is based on historical facts, said UPD CMC.

However, any form of satirical content will be automatically disqualified as it can mislead the viewers.

It should be in full high definition or 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution and contains the hashtags #CMCML50 and #CMCChallenge.

The TikTok video's audience must be set to "public" and the content must strictly be in line with the given theme, UPD CMC said.

Prizes for winners range from P20,000 to P2,500 and each challenger may submit a maximum of three videos, UPD CMC added.
