Police: Crime rate in Iloilo down 12%

ILOILO CITY – The crime rate in Iloilo dropped 12 percent from Jan. 1 to Sept. 21 this year, police declared Thursday, Sept. 22.

“We did well. Our strategies are gaining positive results,” said Col. Adrian Acollador, director of Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).

The IPPO Investigation and Detective Management Unit said there were only 1,745 criminal incidents recorded from Jan. 1 to Sept. 21 compared to the 1,980 in the same period last year.

Index crimes – murder, homicide, physical injuries, robbery, theft, carnapping, and rape – went down 11 percent, from 365 last year to 328. Non-index crimes also decreased by 12 percent, 1,615 to 1,417.

Meanwhile, Acollador said police are on top of the situation amid two highly publicized crimes in which four people were killed.

Acollador has ordered police chiefs in the 42 towns and component city of Passi to intensify presence by massive mobile and foot patrol, intensify the campaign against loose firearms, and intensify intelligence monitoring.

Three young businessmen were gunned down in Estancia, Iloilo on Sept. 14. The following day, on Sept. 15, the driver of a delivery truck was robbed and divested of P300,000 in Lambunao, Iloilo.
