PAGASA: 'Karding' maintains strength, continues to move westward over PH sea

Tropical storm Karding maintained its strength while traversing the Philippine sea, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its 11 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the center of Karding was last spotted 1,320 kilometers (km) east of northern Luzon. It has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph), gustiness of up to 80 kph, and it is still moving westward slowly.

This weather disturbance is not yet “directly affecting” any part of the country. However, as it nears the Philippine landmass, it may bring rains particularly in northern and central Luzon beginning Saturday, Sept. 24.

“There is a high likelihood that tropical cyclone wind signals may be hoisted over northern and central Luzon and some parts of southern Luzon,” said the state weather bureau.

“Localities situated in the eastern portions of northern and central Luzon may be placed under Signal no. 1 as early as evening, Sept. 23 or Saturday morning, Sept. 24,” it added.

Further intensification of Karding is expected. Meanwhile, PAGASA’s latest landfall scenario showed that it may make landfall in the vicinity of the east coast of northern or central Luzon on Sunday, Sept. 25.
