DOH reports 2,702 more Covid-19 cases

The Philippines on Thursday, Sept. 22, recorded 2,702 new Covid-19 cases.

The tally of active cases increased to 28,030, latest data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.

Metro Manila had the most cases in the recent 14 days with 12,475 cases logged.

It was followed by Calabarzon with 4,388, Central Luzon with 2,456, Davao region with 1,279, and Western Visayas with 913.

The new cases brought the country's caseload to 3,929,819. Of the total number of confirmed cases, 3,839,094 were recoveries, while 62,695 were tagged as deaths.

Eligible Filipinos were once again reminded to get their booster shot to better protect themselves against Covid-19.

The DOH said it is already working with the different government agencies to "target specific sectors and encourage people to get vaccinated by providing incentives."

Recently, the DOH adjusted its first booster vaccination coverage target to 30 percent from the previous 50 percent. The DOH aims to achieve this target by Oct. 8 that marks the first 100 days of the Marcos administration.

A total of 18.8 million people have already received their first booster shot. This is 24 percent of the eligible population," said DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire last Sept. 20.

"Ultimately, the government can keep developing new strategies to boost vaccination coverage but we still won't reach our targets if our fellow Filipinos do not get vaccinated. Meaning, it is up to each and every one of us if we will reach these targets," the DOH said in a statement on Thursday.

"Let us all get boosted and let us encourage everyone we know to get boosted as well so we can protect the people we love and successfully transition to the new normal," it added.
