More rains expected in Metro Manila, parts of Luzon due to 'habagat'

Scattered rains may persist in Metro Manila and parts of Southern and Central Luzon until Wednesday, Sept. 21 due to the prevalence of the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday morning, Sept. 20.

In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said that scattered light to heavy rains and thunderstorms may affect Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Bataan, and Zambales.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains in these areas.

Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the habagat may continue to bring rains over Metro Manila and other parts of Southern and Central Luzon until Wednesday, while improving weather will likely prevail over these areas by Thursday and Friday, Sept. 22 and 23.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will continue to have fair weather due to partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with chances of rain showers or thunderstorms.

The public is advised to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.

As of Tuesday, no gale warning was in effect over the country’s seaboards as slight to moderate seas may prevail over the entire archipelago.
