TACLOBAN CITY – A 66-year-old woman died after she was thrown off a motorcycle and hit the wheel of a truck in Sta. Rita, Samar Thursday, Sept. 1.
Police identified the victim as Elisa Guti-ay of Barangay San Antonio, Basey, Samar.
Initial investigation showed that Guti-ay was the back rider of the motorcycle driven by her companion Judith Rellona.
They were on their way to Basey from Barangay San Juan in Sta. Rita when, upon reaching Barangay San Pedro, particularly a narrow portion of the national road, a worker carried a steel scrap without noticing that they were approaching.
The steel scrap hit the driver, causing the motorcycle to crash.
Guti-ay was thrown off and her head struck the rear tires of an approaching truck in the opposite lane. She died on the spot.
The driver of the truck and the worker identified as Kenneth Vergara, 32, were taken to the Sta. Rita Municipal Police Station for disposition.
A scrap buyer, Arnulfo Tonido, was allegedly occupying the road shoulders as storage area for discarded metals.
