The Department of Health (DOH) said it continues to observe a decreasing trend in Covid-19 cases in most areas of the country.
“Mindanao showing signs of plateauing, Visayas remain on a plateau,” the DOH said in its Covid-19 situation report on Friday, Sept. 2.
“The rest of areas show a slow downward trend,” it added.
The DOH recorded a total of 2,452 new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the tally of active infections nationwide to 23,703.
Since 2020, the country has already registered 3,886,395 confirmed Covid-19 cases. Of this figure, 3,800,782 were tagged as recoveries, while 61,910 were deaths.
Currently, the number of “severe and critical cases remain on a plateau, with less than 1,000 cases,” the DOH said.
State of Calamity
Despite improvements in the daily Covid-19 numbers, the DOH has recommended to extend the state of calamity due to the pandemic.
DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said that they already submitted their recommendation to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC).
“The President has pronounced during one of his interviews...he said that most likely we are going to extend the state of calamity until the end of the year,” said Vergeire in a press briefing.
“We already forwarded our recommendations to the NDRRMC, together with the different basis kung bakit natin siya pinapaextend (why want it to be extended), and we are just waiting because the next council meeting is next week for this to be approved,” she added.
