No classes in QC, Camanava, Manila due to heavy rains

The local governments of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela (Camanava), Manila and Quezon Cities announced the suspension of face-to-face and online classes in all levels in public and private schools on Friday, Sept. 2, after Metro Manila was placed under yellow rainfall warning due to Typhoon Henry.

Metro Manila has been placed under yellow heavy rainfall warning by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) as of 1:15 p.m. Friday.

"The presence of Typhoon Henry situated over the northern part of Philippine Area of Responsibility currently enhances the Southwest Monsoon, which will have a significant effect over the western part of the country including Metro Manila. Quezon City will likely experience monsoon rains within the next 24 hours associated to the enhanced Southwest Monsoon," The Quezon City government said in a Facebook post.

"Based on the latest heavy rainfall of PAGASA and guidance forecast of different numerical weather prediction models, Metro Manila is placed under Yellow Heavy Rainfall Warning as of 1:15 PM, and is to likely experience light to moderate and at times heavy rains within the next 3 hours," it added.

“Pursuant to section 4 No. 2 of the aforementioned order and based on the Yellow Rainfall Warning issued by PAGASA at 1:15 p.m. Sept 2, 2022, therefore in-person and online classes in all public schools in SDO Navotas are automatically cancelled," The Navotas City Schools Division Office also said in a Facebook post.

Recently, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte approved the revised guidelines on automatic class suspensions.

Class suspension will be declared in all public and private basic education schools regardless of the signal number or rainfall warning level.

According to the new guidelines, classes in all levels will be automatically suspended in basic education schools under any tropical cyclone wind signal issued by the PAGASA.

Face-to-face and online classes will also be suspended in areas under flood or yellow, orange, and red rainfall warning by PAGASA. (Diann Ivy Calucin)
