1 dead in Ifugao landslide due to Super Typhoon Henry, TD Gardo

A farmer in Mayoyao, Ifugao died due to a landslide caused by heavy rain which were triggered by Super Typhoon Henry and Tropical Depression (TD) Gardo, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and Philippine National Police (PNP) reported Friday, Sept. 2.

The NDRRMC released the first situational report for ST Henry around 8 a.m. and indicated one fatality although there were no concrete details of it yet, aside from an initial information that it came from Ifugao.

But a report from the police regional office in Cordillera Administrative Region (PRO-COR) identified the victim as Renie Bullan, 37.

Initial police investigation showed Bullan got trapped in his brother’s house in Sitio Natulan, Brgy. Mongol, Mayoyao, Ifugao on August 31 after a landslide hit the area.

It turned out that Bullan went to his brother's house to secure his motorcycle but decided to stay there due to the heavy rain. Unfortunately, a landslide struck in the area which buried the house and trapped the victim inside, according to police.

His body was recovered on Sept. 1 by joint forces from Ifugao police, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Mayoyao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), and other volunteers.

Meanwhile, a dike in Brgy. Amduntog, Asipulo, Ifugao eroded which affected a fishpond with around 2,000 pieces of tilapia on harvesting stage.

Nine roads and bridges were also affected by flooding, landslide, and soil collapse in Ifugao and Mountain Province.

As of writing, six roads and bridges have already been partially opened while three roads remained impassable: the Cava Provincial Road at Bayucan Section, Poblacion- Balangbang Provincial Road, and Balangbang to Chunac Road all in Lagawe, Ifugao.

Power outage was also reported in Mayoyao, Ifugao which has yet to be restored.
