Uniqlo presents its fall-winter 2022 collection dubbed ‘Today’s Classics’

If you ask any stylist about building a wardrobe to help you create your personal style, chances are you’ll always get the advice to invest in classics. These pieces are closet staples and building blocks in assisting one to create their own unique manner of dressing. Examples of these are the little black dress, a cozy cashmere sweater, denim pants, a crisp white shirt, and the list goes on. Think of these pieces as blank canvases just waiting to be adorned.

While there are a lot of “core” trends happening in fashion today, from clowncore and cottagecore to normcore and royalcore, this season, nothing beats classic dressing, especially if they merge function with style. 

That is what Uniqlo’s fall-winter offering is all about, closet staples that adapt to the needs of today’s lifestyle. Last August, the Japanese global apparel retailer unveil its newest line of Lifewear dubbed “Today’s Classics.” Its pieces are designed with innovation, sustainability, and timeless aesthetic in mind. 

“There is a reason why our Lifewear pieces such as the tweed jacket, trench coat, or cashmere sweater are loved through the years. They are designed well and effectively serve their purpose,” says Geraldine Sia, Uniqlo Philippines’ COO. “Uniqlo, however, believes that even these classics can evolve with the times. That’s the inspiration behind this season’s collection.”

From chic knitwear pieces to vibrant outwear, here are some of our favorite pieces from the brand’s latest collection. 

For the gents

Layering is key as the cooler weather approaches. For the gents, layer the line’s Men’s Middle Gauge Knitted Crew Neck Vest over its white Dry Ex Crew Neck Short Sleeve paired with its Pleated Tapered Pants to channel that trendy yet classy sweater vest look. For a more relaxed ensemble while outdoors, Uniqlo’s Utility Parka has been reimagined to a more practical design with five pockets at the waist, chest, and interiors. Pair it with denim or slacks and chunky loafers or sleek slides and you’re good to go.

For the ladies

Our advice for the ladies is to bring fun during the gloomy weather through colors. Pink is having a big moment on the international runways. Wear that ultra-feminine energy with the brand’s Fluffy Yarn Fleece and Ultra Light Down Jacket, which come in charming blush tones. Style them with the brand’s Baggy Jeans and a pair of pumps to complete that luxe and relaxed look. Another piece ladies should have in their closets is the Corduroy Cropped Jacket. It comes in different neutral shades but our favorite is the one in wine color. Ladies can make a corduroy moment by pairing it with the collection’s Corduroy Wide Pants or Baggy Jeans, honestly, they can never go wrong either way.

Other must-see collections

During the launch of its fall-winter collection, Uniqlo also gave a glimpse of its special collections and collaborations. These include artistic director Christophe Lemaire and his team in Paris’ take on Uniqlo U, UK-born fashion designer Hana Tajima collaboration line, Ines de la Fressange’s Parisian chic collection, and JW Anderson’s British countryside-inspired collection, and the artsy UT Archive.
