Radio commentator fatally stabbed in Negros Oriental


BACOLOD CITY – A radio commentator and anchorman was stabbed dead in Barangay Himocdongon, Mabinay, Negros Oriental on Sunday, Sept. 18.

Police identified the victim as Rey “Bullseye!” Blanco of Bais City, Negros Oriental and anchorman of Power 102.1 DYRY RFM based in Mabinay.

Initial investigation showed that Blanco went to the house of the brother of the suspect, Charles Amada.

An altercation occurred and Charles appeared from behind and stabbed the victim in the neck.

Blanco was taken to the Mabinay Community Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Charles voluntarily surrendered and is now under police custody.

Power 102.1 DYRY RFM, in a Facebook post, condoled with the family of Blanco.

The radio station said that Blanco’s advocacies to defend the oppressed and abused people will not end with his death.

"Walang demokrasya kung walang independiyenteng media. Kung patahimikin mo ang mga mamamahayag, pinatahimik mo ang boses ng demokrasya (There’s no democracy if there’s no independent media. If you silence the media, it also means silencing the voice of democracy), the station said.
