No Filipinos reported badly affected in Taiwan quake, Japan typhoon — DFA

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Monday that no Filipinos have been reported to have been badly affected in two natural disasters that hit the Asian region: the devastating earthquake in Taiwan and the typhoon in Japan.

Citing the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, DFA spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza said "there were no reports of Filipinos among the earthquake victims" in Taiwan, where a magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit the territory's southeastern part on Sunday.

Meanwhile, no Filipino under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Consulate in Osaka, Japan has been affected or injured by typhoon Nanmadol, Daza said.

"While some Filipinos in Kagoshima Prefecture have opted to heed the call of their local governments to evacuate to nearby evacuation centers, no Filipino has been permanently displaced by the storm," she added.

The DFA assured Filipinos, especially those with relatives in Japan, that the Philippine Consulate General continues to monitor the situation.

It is also in continuous contact with the Filipino community organizations under their jurisdiction, particularly in the southwestern area of Japan, it added.
