Iral: No second chance for BJMP personnel linked to illegal drugs
By Chito Chavez
Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) chief Director Allan Iral warned on Monday, Sept. 19, that he will not give a second chance to any of his men who would be involved in illegal drug trade in side jail facilities.
“Walang puwang ang mga tiwali at mapang-abuso sa ating (BJMP) hanay. Kasi sa bawat galaw natin, personal man yan o tungkol sa trabaho, dala natin ang pangalan ng BJMP – sa karangalan man o kahihiyan (There is no room for the unprincipled and abusive men in the BJMP because in our every move, be it personal or work-related, we carry the name of the BJMP in glory or in shame),’’ Iral emphasized.
In issuing the ultimatum, Iral reminded the BJMP men “to do their job well and not to allow themselves to be the reason for the erosion of the institution’’ and “to continue ensuring a safe and healthy workplace, free from the use of dangerous drugs in all offices and jail facilities.’’
“At para sa mga kasamahan namin sa propesyon na malilihis ng landas (And to our colleagues who took the wrong path), please bear in mind that we remain firm and uncompromising when it comes to our internal cleansing program. There’s no room for errant jail officers in the BJMP,” Iral stressed.
The BJMP chief also reiterated the order of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr. to be on guard for the possible illegal drug entries in some jail facilities.
“Malinaw ang bilin ni Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr., bawal ang droga sa BJMP (The order of Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. is clear, illegal drugs are not allowed in the BJMP),’’ Iral noted.
Iral also warned that wardens face appropriate sanctions if illegal drugs found their way in their jail facilities as ordered by Abalos.
As an agency, Iral stated that the BJMP should be “responsible for the welfare and development of the incarcerated sector, it is imperative that its personnel are well-disciplined, and more importantly, right with the law.’’ (Chito A. Chavez)
