BAGUIO CITY -- The Baguio City Fire Department logged 15 fire incidents from April to August this year, a 15.38 percent increase, compared to the 13 in the same period in 2021.
Supt. Nestor Gorio, city fire marshall, encouraged the public to practice fire safety as arson investigators found out that among the reasons for these fires were carelessness in cooking, overloading of electrical appliances, overheating of household items, and faulty wiring.
On the other hand, from January to August this year, 3,007 establishments were inspected and awarded safety inspection certificates, compared to only 2,487 last year.
Gorio also reported that local firefighters responded to fewer emergecy calls from 189 to 166, a decrease of 12.17 percent, from January to August this year compared to the same period last year.
"Let us all practice fire safety, to avoid any fire and also for the safety of the family," Gorio said.
