Imee: PBBM may not have a chance to meet Biden

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. may not be able to have the chance to meet United States (US) President Joe Biden, Sen. Imee Marcos said on Sunday, September 18.

The senator pointed this out ahead of the President’s upcoming participation in the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Nevertheless, the President’s sister said she believes this would not be Marcos’ first engagement in the US.

“Hindi sure, hindi sure kasi bugbog talaga yung skedyul daw ni Pres. Biden, at naiintindihan ko naman kasi sa totoo lang, gitgitan ang kanilang eleksyon, panahon ng eleksyon. Last two minutes ang eleksyon nila, November na (It’s not sure, it’s not sure because President Biden’s schedule is full. And I understand it because they are in the middle of their elections. Their elections are in the last two minutes, and it’s already November),” Marcos said in an interview over Radio DZBB.

“So I think it’s not yet confirm, but I’m sure magkikita yon kasi meron namang mga reception yan na everybody goes there, so magkikita pa rin sila (they will still meet because they hold a receptions there where everybody goes there, so there can be a chance for them to meet at the sidelines),” she said.

“Pero yung extended one-on-one baka mahirapan (But an extended one-on-one meeting might be difficult),” the senator added.

Asked why she is not going with her brother to the UNGA, Marcos said she had chosen not to because she will go to Washington later on.

Marcos is chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

“Ako’y tutuloy na lang so medyo ‘holding the fort’ muna dito, after that, I will go naman to the US after, pag nakaalis siya, kasi ipa-follow-up ko yung pinag-usapan sa UN para nagdo-double tagging lang kami, back to back (I will be ‘holding the fort’ here so to speak, because I will go to the US after he goes back. Because I will follup on what they were able to talk at the UN. So I we will be double tagging, back to back),” she pointed out.

Marcos said she hopes the public won’t expect too much for the President and Biden to hold bilateral talks during his first official trip to the US.

“Hindi naman problema yan at saka marami pang pagkakataon. Kakaupo lang naman ni Presidente Bongbong (That’s not a problem, and there are many other chances for that to happen. President Bongbong is just starting),” she pointed out.
